Equipment

  • A small saucepan
  • A tea strainer or fine mesh sieve (if using ground cinnamon)
  • Teapot or heatproof pitcher
  • Two teacups or mugs

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 sticks cinnamon or 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 2 bags tea black or green tea, depending on your preference
  • honey, sugar, or your favorite sweetener to taste optional
  • a splash of milk or a slice of lemon optional

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, bring the 2 cups of water to a boil. While you're waiting for the water to boil.
  • Once the water is boiling, add the cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon to the saucepan. If you're using ground cinnamon, you'll want to use a tea strainer or fine mesh sieve when pouring the tea later to remove any cinnamon sediment.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let the cinnamon simmer for about 5 minutes. This will allow the water to absorb the warm, sweet flavors of the cinnamon.
  • After the 5 minutes are up, remove the saucepan from the heat and add the tea bags. Allow the tea to steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea. Remember, the longer you steep, the stronger the flavor!
  • While the tea is steeping, prepare your teapot or heatproof pitcher by warming it with some hot water. This will help keep your cinnamon tea hot for longer.
  • Once the tea has reached your desired strength, remove the tea bags and pour the tea into the warmed teapot or pitcher. If you used ground cinnamon, be sure to strain the tea through a tea strainer or fine mesh sieve to catch any cinnamon sediment.
  • Serve the cinnamon tea in your favorite teacups or mugs, and customize it to your liking with a touch of honey, sugar, or your preferred sweetener. You can also add a splash of milk for a creamier texture or a slice of lemon for a refreshing citrus twist.
