Risotto is usually rich, delicious, and creamy. The rice is soft and tender and has a smooth, buttery consistency. But once the risotto makes its way into the fridge, it gets dry and clumpy. If you want to get your leftover risotto back to its former glory, there are a couple of ways to reheat the risotto that will give you surprisingly satisfying results.
How To Reheat Risotto in the Oven
To reheat risotto in the oven you just need to warm it up with a little broth or water and let it cook slowly. The risotto gets warm, but the texture might be different.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Spread the risotto in a baking dish with a few tablespoons of broth or water and stir well. 2-3 tablespoons of water for every 1 cup of risotto.
- Cover with foil and let the risotto heat for 15-20 minutes.

Because of how you can control the heat and how slowly and evenly it heats, the stovetop is one of the best ways to heat risotto with the most satisfying results.
- Add a couple of tablespoons of broth or water to a pan and let it heat on the stove.
- Once the water is hot, add the risotto, stir and let the risotto simmer for 3-4 minutes on low.
- You can cover it to speed up the process, but this also makes the risotto more watery as the moisture gets trapped inside, so add water accordingly.
- Take it off the heat and add more broth, butter, or cream if required.
The stovetop produces perfectly warmed risotto. The result is neither dry, burnt risotto, nor is it a soupy mess. Make sure you are cooking in low temperatures so that the risotto doesn’t burn. High temperature also causes it to heat unevenly. You also need to remember to keep stirring so that the risotto doesn’t stick to the bottom.
How To Reheat Risotto in a Steamer
- Heat water in your steamer pot.
- Place your bowl of risotto on the perforated steamer plate.
- Close the steamer and let the risotto heat for 2-3 minutes on low heat.

The risotto made in the steamer is surprisingly delicious. The two most important things to keep in mind are to heat it on low and to keep stirring. Steaming it on low lets the risotto heat evenly and slowly. Steaming it on high might make parts of the risotto hard and dry.
How To Reheat Risotto in an Instant Pot
If you do have an instant pot, this is an extremely easy way to reheat risotto. Since it is easy to burn risotto in the Instant Pot, it is important to keep an eye on it and to keep stirring. There are also a couple of ways to reheat risotto in the Instant Pot.
- Add your leftover risotto to your Instant Pot with a couple of spoons of broth or water.
- Stir well and switch on the Keep Warm function.
- You can adjust the temperature depending on the quantity of risotto you are warming up, but it is always recommended to use low heat.
- Keep stirring because the Instant Pot gets really hot, really quickly and you don’t want to burn your risotto.
- Your risotto will be heated in about 3-4 minutes.
- Add your leftover to your Instant Pot with a couple of spoons of broth or water.
- Stir well and press the Sauté button.
- Keep stirring as your risotto heats up.
- Sauté the risotto on low heat. This should take no more than 3-4 minutes.
You can also steam your risotto in the Instant Pot.
- Add a cup of water to your Instant Pot vessel.
- Place the trivet or steamer stand on the water.
- Put your risotto in an Instant Pot-friendly dish and keep it on top of the trivet.
- Close the Instant Pot and press the Steam button, making sure the valve is in the Seal position. Select 5 minutes for the time.
- Release pressure manually, don’t wait for it to come down by itself as the risotto will continue to cook in the heat and you might end up with extremely soggy risotto.
All three methods provide satisfying results with the risotto getting warmed well and evenly. The only drawback with the Sauté method is that there is a chance of burning the risotto.
The risotto will stay good in the fridge for about 5 days. But, if your risotto contains seafood or meat it is best to consume it within 2-3 days. Risotto is best when eaten within a day or two, although it keeps in the fridge for 5 days. The risotto will last in the freezer for about 3 months if stored properly, but it is generally not recommended to freeze risotto as the rice gets hard and grainy.
It is best to store risotto within two hours of making it. Store your risotto in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge.
